TIMESASIANews | Russia’s attacks on Ukraine are still ongoing. The latest news is that dozens of missiles are said to have attacked cities in the former Soviet Union, including the capital Kyiv.

This comes after Russia’s announcement that it was withdrawing from the agreement on the export of wheat and grains in the Black Sea last weekend. Whereas the agreement made in July allows important agricultural products to be exported from several Ukrainian ports.

Russia experienced this based on Ukraine’s attack on the military in the Black Sea. Here are some of the latest war updates from Monday to Tuesday (1/11/2022):

Shoot 50 Missiles

Russia is reported to have shot 50 rurals a day or more into Ukraine. This was reported by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

“Missiles and drones hit 10 areas, where 18 objects (facilities) were damaged, mostly energy related,” he said on Telegram, quoted by CNBC International.

“Hundreds of settlements in seven regions of Ukraine were cut off. The consequences could be much worse,” he added.

But thanks to the heroic and professional work of the Air Defense Force, 44 of the more than 50 missiles fired into our territory were shot down,” he stressed.

Not only Kyiv, a number of cities in Eastern and Southern Ukraine were also targeted. Dnipropetrovsk in southeastern Ukraine was reportedly attacked with Russian missiles this morning.

Kyiv Electricity and Water Critical

As a result of the attack, several areas of the Ukrainian city experienced a water and electricity crisis until last Monday. This morning Tuesday (1/11) missiles also hit 18 facilities. Most are energy related, leaving 80% of Kyiv’s population without water or electricity.

But in a recent update Monday evening, Kyiv DTEK electricity provider, Kyivski Elektromerezhi, said electricity and water were now gradually being restored in the capital.

“We have restored electricity supply to consumers and water utility facilities that have no electricity due to the Russian terrorist attack on the city’s critical infrastructure facilities on the morning of October 31,” reads a post from DTEK’s official Facebook page.

However, following instructions from the operator of the country’s electricity transmission system, Ukrenergo, the restrictions on electricity supply will remain in effect. Power will be fully restored once the system is stable and on Ukrenergo’s instructions, according to the provider.

Biden Rage at Zelensky

US President Joe Biden was reportedly angry with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This happened last June, said several people close to the matter. It started with a phone call, when the two were talking about a new package of US aid for the Ukrainian military. When Biden just told him he had just given another $1 billion in military aid to Ukraine, Zelenky instead listed all the additional help he needed and didn’t get.

“Biden is losing his temper,” people familiar with the call said, quoted by NBC.

“The American people are quite generous, and his administration and the US military are working hard to help Ukraine,” Biden said at the time, raising his voice.

Zelensky should be able to show a little more gratitude. A spokesman for the National Security Council declined to comment on the story. A Zelenskyy spokesman did not respond to a request for comment.

US Contact China

On the other hand, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with his Chinese counterpart about Russia’s war in Ukraine. This was confirmed by the US State Department in a statement.

“Blinken spoke with State Counselor of the People’s Republic of China and Foreign Minister Wang Yi,” said State Department spokesman Ned Price.

“The minister raised Russia’s war against Ukraine and the threat it poses to global security and economic stability,” he added.

Washington itself has repeatedly warned Beijing. Uncle Sam requested that the Bamboo Curtain not provide financial aid to Moscow to help Russian President Vladimir Putin blunt global sanctions.

Number of New War Victims

The United Nations has confirmed 6,430 civilian deaths and 9,865 injuries in Ukraine since Russia attacked February 24. The office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said the death toll in Ukraine was likely higher because armed conflict could delay reports of deaths.

The international organization said most of the recorded civilian casualties were caused by the use of explosive weapons with a wide area of impact. This includes firing from heavy artillery and multiple rocket launch systems, as well as missiles and air strikes.

Export Shipping from Ukraine Despite Russian pressure, 12 ships carrying grain left Ukrainian ports yesterday. This comes amid Russia’s withdrawal from the Black Sea treaty to open exportsUkraine.

“A record 354,500 tonnes of grain was transported by ship leaving Ukrainian ports as part of the Black Sea grain deal,” said a military spokesman for the Odessa region.

Meanwhile, responding to Russia’s decision to stop participation in the deal, the United Nations, Turkey and Ukraine reached an agreement on Sunday to unblock 16 grain ships in Sufi waters. The agreement completes Russia’s enforced inspection backlog and helps stave off fears of a global food crisis.

“The UN and Turkish delegations provided 10 inspection teams to inspect 40 ships,” said Oleksandr Kubrakov, Ukraine’s infrastructure minister.

“The Russian delegation is aware of the new inspection plan,” he added. (**)
