Based on information received by HSNI, Indonesian fishermen faced the Singapore Marine Police on Tuesday (24/12) at around 13.00 WIB, when a number of fishermen were fishing in the border area of Nipah Island and Singapore.

The Singapore Marine Police drove away fishermen by turning their patrol boats so as to create waves that made fishing boats sway in the sea. So that a fisherman in the name of Mahadir, from Eggplant Island, was thrown into the sea.

Quoting Zonajakarta.com, from the December 26, 2024, edition of Antara news, this incident made the Chairman of the Riau Islands Indonesian Fishermen’s Association (HNSI Kepri) Distrawandi, regret the actions of the Singapore Maritime Police who allegedly intimidated fishermen on Balikpadang Island, Batam, while fishing in the waters of Nipah Island, and demanded an explanation from local authorities.

“It could be that the fishermen violated the border area, but the way and attitude of the Singapore Marine Police made us from HSNI very sultry,” said Distrawandi as quoted from Antara.
